Oryon Develop are pleased to welcome Dr Jack Singer, Consultant Paediatrician, for this evening lecture looking at disorders commonly seen in children – as well as those that occur less commonly but should still be recognised in clinic. Often AHPs are the first port of call for worried parents and although the majority of these conditions may not need treatment, the care provider should be familiar with normal variations in order to identify and treat an abnormality.
Part One: Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD) – A New Name for an Old Condition
In the first half of the evening, Dr Singer will look at gastro-oesophageal reflux which is very common in babies – studies estimate it affects nearly half of all children younger than 1 year old.
While most children grow out of reflux, for some it can develop into a long-term condition and can have a serious effect on both the child and family’s quality of life. Dr Singer will therefore offer his advice on when GORD should be a cause for concern and when to refer onwards – including the treatment options available.
Dr Singer will also provide a review of NICE guidelines as relating to GORD.
Part Two: Normal Variations & Concerning Conditions
In the second half of the evening, Dr Singer will provide an essential understanding of the normal development of the musculoskeletal system in younger children and infants. This will include normal variations and diagnosis and treatment of a range of conditions including developmental concerns and delay, headaches and suspected allergies.
