The new ‘Manual for Streets’ and its Scottish policy counterpart ‘Designing Streets’ both supersede the guidance on residential street design provided by Design Bulletin 32 and the DfT document ‘Places, Streets & Movement’ and together transform the way we should place and design our streetscapes.  The manuals both show how street design considerations can improve environmental quality to support and sustain mixed communities, enabling the delivery of attractive safe and well designed residential environments, in accordance with the emerging Planning Policy Statement 3 for Housing (2006).  This course guides delegates through the Manual, examines the main changes and highlights issues arising from the design, construction, adoption and maintenance of new streets, as well as the redesign of existing streets.
