Those who are new to studying Italian and require an intensive introductory course.
University of Surrey, Stag Hill , Guildford, GU2 7XH, Surrey, United Kingdom

Speaking and understanding the spoken language are very important skills for most people. Our evening classes concentrate on building your confidence in the language and you can expect to be taught in the language you are learning.

Classes will concentrate on the speaking, reading and listening skills. There will be lots of opportunity for role-play and pair work, and audio and visual materials will be used.

By the end of the course you will be able to 'get by' in Italian: take part in simple conversations, ask questions, deal with simple transactions and have a good basic vocabulary.

Topics include - greeting people, talking about yourself and your family, leisure, shopping, ordering a meal, transport and finding your way around, booking accommodation.

Grammar includes - rules of pronunciation and spelling, numbers, nouns and gender, definite and indefinite articles, personal pronouns, use of formal and informal forms of address, the present, simple past and future tenses, reflexive verbs, agreement of adjectives.

Italian Beginners classes run on Wednesday evenings from 7pm - 8.30pm between 16th October and 12th March 2013-2014. Please note that there is no half term break.

All learners are able to use the excellent self-study facilities in the new Library and Learning Centre. Open hours can be checked at https://www.surrey.ac.uk/library

You may also be interested in attending one of our Open Evenings - These are opportunities for you to visit the School, share a glass of wine with the tutors and ask any questions you may have about the courses. The evenings are free of charge, but you do need to register with the School of English and Languages beforehand (T: 01483 682857).

Open Evenings for 2013-2014 are at 7pm to 8.30pm on the following dates:

  • Autumn term: Monday 23rd September 2013
  • Spring term: Monday 13th January 2014
