Introduction to this course
The aim of this module is to provide a comprehensive review of the pathogenesis and laboratory detection of selected viral and fungal pathogens and current and emerging infections in the compromised host.
Topics covered in this course
- Overview of viral and fungal structure, classification, modes of replication;
- Current developments in the diagnosis and treatment of viral and fungal infection;
- Review of selected viral and fungal diseases: Influenza, Hepatitis, Cervical Cancer, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, Systemic mycoses, Dermatophytosis;
- Review of infections in compromised hosts: Transplant patients, Cystic fibrosis patients, Neonates, Foetus, Intubated patients.
