The CPD route to the Clinical Psychology Doctorate was established in the late 1990s as a branch of the established training course in clinical psychology housed in the School of Psychology at the University of Birmingham. The course is intended for practising clinical psychologists who obtained their qualification prior to training courses becoming doctorates.
To obtain the doctorate, students will be required to complete the main research component of the established training course. This involves completion of a literature review, a research project and public briefing paper. Details of these requirements are contained in the training course handbook, a copy of the relevant parts of which will be sent to successful applicants. Students are also expected to develop their general research-related skills through a taught component.
