Module Content

The module contentis designed to equip Health Professionals with an existing knowledge of the clinical management of common impairments related to upper motor neurone damage, with contemporary understanding of the rationale for use of exercise prescription involving the application of various technologies in patient management; e.g. therapeutic electrical stimulation, orthotics, robotics, and virtual reality. The role of current research in clinical decision making and application will also be included. All tutors are active researchers and will provide current research based lectures to inform current clinical practice

Module Learning Outcomes/Objectives:

The student should be able to:

  • Explore and discuss factors that contribute to deterioration in muscle structure and function
  • Develop a conceptual understanding of a variety of methods that can be used to prevent deterioration in, and/or improve muscle function
  • Evaluate appropriate technology/assistive devices used in the rehabilitation of patients with neuromuscular/neurological conditions

Critically evaluate specified commonly used outcome measures within the context of the ICF classification

Module fee

For students wishing to take as CPD only, Full day at £100

For students wishing to take the assessment and gain 15 masters level credits, UK/EU students £490 for 2015/16
