To develop a critical understanding of the use of injections in the management of joint and soft tissue pathology and to develop professional responsibility towards injection practice.
Principles of treatment techniques; aseptic technique, management of anaphylactic shock. Pharmacology of injection agents. Mode of action, precautions and contra-indications, interactions with other medications, possible complications. Supervised practice of techniques. Professional issues:- competency to practice, professional body guidance, patient group directions, evidence base. Plus where applicable additional sessions will be offered on reflective practice and portfolio building. The student will be responsible for setting the framework in which to work including identifying opportunities for supervised injections then assessed injections.

A letter of support from a manager, a letter of support from a mentor, proof of qualifications and one reference using the Keele pro-forma are required with your application. Also required is proof of up to date registration the appropriate UK body (eg HPC) and up to date registration with the appropriate professional body with insurance (eg CSP). Our policy is to accept students on a ‘first come first served basis’. Students will only be accepted onto this module once all the relevant paperwork is complete.
