This course provides the opportunity to understand and be able to demonstrate how information, and its analysis and presentation utilizing information technology, can support the delivery of effective health and social care.

Relevant, accurate and timely information is critical to the process of good decision-making within the delivery and management of health and social care. It is important therefore that individuals have the skills, knowledge and understanding to be able to extract information from data, interpret this information, make appropriate inferences and communicate the appropriate information and decisions in a timely fashion.

The aim of this course is to provide individuals with the ability to analyse data and present information effectively to a range of audiences, using appropriate techniques and media.

This course should be of interest to anyone working in delivery and management of health and social care.

Entry Requirements: Any undergraduate degree

Start Date: 21 September 2015

Delivery: This course is delivered online for 12 weeks with no on-campus attendance requirements.

Assessment: 100% Coursework - A technical report covering three areas: (a) basic statistics and simple presentation of various formats using a spreadsheet, with embedded graphical tools, (b) advanced statistical methods, problem formulation and solving, and use of statistical packages (EXCEL) for case studies and (c) a reflection on how data and information analysis and representation can benefit health and/or social care.

This course is part of a framework of postgraduate professional development opportunities. If you wish, you can study a range of short courses over a period of time and build credit towards the Postgraduate Certificate of Professional Development. Once you have successfully completed a combination of short courses worth 60 credits in total, you will be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate of Professional Development.
