A one-day introduction to Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. This Course provides a simple understanding of Air Conditioning and Refrigeration fundamentals, applications and terminology. The Course covers SI Units, Heat load calculation, equipment selection, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration systems and cycles, components and controls.

Basic Definitions and SI Units

Heat Load Calculation for comfort air conditioning and Refrigeration Systems

Heat Load Calculation case studies - examples are included throughout and are also used to illustrate the limitations and dangers of "Rules of Thumb”

Types of AC&R Equipment

Direct & Indirect Systems, Split Systems, Cassettes, Multi-Splits

An overview of key refrigeration cycle components including Compressors, Evaporators, Condensers, Capillary Tubes and Thermostatic Expansion valves

How the Refrigeration Vapour - Compression Cycle works.

Pressure/Temperature/Enthalpy relationships

Refrigerants the Environment and the Law.


At the end of the Course, delegates should be able to understand the importance of heat load calculations, select appropriate air conditioning and refrigeration equipment to meet the calculated heat gains; understand how the vapour compression system works. Basic troubleshooting, faultfinding and diagnostics.
