(See Description)
students aged 16 and over who intend to complete their A levels and have a passion for the theatre.
University of Surrey, Stag Hill , Guildford, GU2 7XH, Surrey, United Kingdom

GSA part time course is for students aged 16 and over who intend to complete their A levels and have a passion for the theatre. It is designed to prepare students for full time education in the performing arts.

Classes are held out of school or office hours at GSA, Stag Hill Campus, on two evenings a week from 5.00pm until 8.00pm (times subject to change).

Why?

GSA’s part time course is to accommodate students who elect to stay at school or college for A levels as well as those who are funding themselves towards higher education by working. The course will be complementary to full time study, concentrating on vocational training by means of master classes, graded examinations, teaching elements, audition preparation and performance experience.

Fundamentally the course will prepare students towards successful application and audition into Drama School or College.

What to expect?

The period between 16 and 20 are vital years in a young person’s preparation. Whilst much of the early learning has taken place and students may be skilled in the rudiments of dance, acting and singing, a much higher level of achievement will be required to ensure successful auditioning.

The course is divided into three sections;

1. Master Classes

Each week students will attend class in one of the major disciplines of the performing arts. Visiting coaches will be engaged from time to time but we will have permanent staff that will be guiding the students through the course. Some classes will take the form of rehearsals, when a performance is in preparation.

2. Examinations

Students will be prepared individually to take examinations in Acting (LAMDA) & Singing (LCM).

3. Audition Technique and Preparation of Audition MaterialActing:

Students will prepare a number of pieces suitable for drama school auditions and/or professional work. Students should aim to gather a repertoire of at least 6 acting pieces (2 classical, 2 period, 2 modern)

Singing:

At least 4 contrasting songs will be prepared. These will be chosen with the tutor to demonstrate the vocal range and presentation ability of the student.

Entry criteria and auditions

  • Acceptance into GSA’s part time course will be by audition
  • Students must have reached their 16th birthday by 31st August in the year of entry in September

Auditions will be held at GSA Building, Stag Hill Campus, Guildford, Surrey. Students will be required to present one acting piece, one song and a short discussion with the panel.

The auditions will take place June, July, August & September and will cost £35.00.

Student Fees: Fees will be £1330 per term.

This includes

  • Tutoring for 2 evening classes per week (each session lasting 3 hours) total of 30 weeks
  • Private singing/acting tutorials
  • Examination entries paid for
  • 3 out of school hours specialised one week courses
