Aims of the course
To introduce the profession of public relations and develop key writing skills
What will I be studying?
This foundation course in Public Relations leads to the (Level 3) Foundation Award in Public Relations awarded by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.
You will learn the basic theories of effective communication. Content is set at A-level standard and provides an introduction to PR as a career. The course will examine the key terms, techniques and theories of public relations and look at the relationship between PR and marketing, advertising, promotions and publicity.
Unit 1 - Distinguishing PR Activities
Unit 2 - Writing PR releases for news media
Unit 3 - Ethics and the PR professional
What will I get out of it?
An introduction to PR as a career.
What are the entry requirements?
At least five GCSEs at grade C or above*. Plus, those whose first language is not English must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the language - spoken and written - to an International Language Testing System (IELTS) band score of 7.0 or above or equivalent.
* If you do not have the necessary GCSEs or GCEs you may still be accepted at the discretion of the CIPR on the basis of your professional experience (not necessarily in public relations). Please email [email protected].
