At the end of this module students should have:
- The awareness of the framework of relevant legal requirements governing engineering activities, including personnel, health, safety, and risk (including environmental risk) issues and the ability to assess an industrial activity in terms of legal liability and the requirements of safety law;
- An understanding of appropriate codes of practice and industry standards, in particular the Health and Safety and Work Act (1974) the dependent safety legislation and regulations stemming from it;
- The ability to prepare risk assessments and safety cases for generic industrial activities and for specific hazards (described in the syllabus);
- An understanding of the concept of continuous safety auditing and traceability.
