This event is a methodological seminar designed to help participants plan for the analysis of visual data - still images and video recordings.
The seminar discusses theoretical and methodological contexts for the analysis of visual data – e.g. Activity Theory, Grounded Theory and Qualitative Content Analysis – as well as illustrating and critiquing software tools – including ATLAS.ti, Interact, MAXqda, NVivo, QDA Miner, Transana and Media Players such as Windows Media Player, Quick Time Player, imovie.
The session will comprise discussion and demonstration, with working research projects being illustrated live within selected software. We will discuss data preparation and handling, transcription tools, analytic and (re)presentation tools. The session will be practical, illustrating the ease with which tools can be manipulated as well as discussing their analytic functionality.
No particular knowledge is necessary to attend the seminar.
