This module aims to provide the learner with knowledge and understanding of the depth and variety that exists with regard to palliative care and its provision.

Palliative care is a vast subject area, and one that is subject to constant change and development. It is not possible to address all the issues that the module subject area ‘Palliative Care Themes and Perspectives’ could cover. However, this module does look at a wide range of topic areas with interlinked but also discreet problems and issues, such as the comparisons of palliative care provision internationally, specific needs of the young, those with mental health needs or learning difficulties, and the needs of the dying and their carers. The aim of the module is to encourage those involved in the provision of palliative care to reflect on their own specific practice, the practice of others and also the wider issues raised by the needs of the users of the service and how they are met.
