Module Overview
This module covers a range of brain disorders which are common in adults but which are not otherwise covered in the course. The aim of the module is to equip clinicians with the skills to integrate neurological and psychiatric thinking in the diagnosis and management of these conditions.

Conditions covered in this module include; Parkinson disease and other motor disorders, multiple sclerosis, delirium, sleep disorders and neurodevelopmental disorders in adults (autistic spectrum disorders and attention deficit disorder).

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module you should be able to:

  • Understand the neurobiology of abnormal mental states in common neurological disorders so that this knowledge can be applied to improve patient outcomes
  • Develop a structure for assessment and management of people who have these disorders which reflects a critical understanding of the literature and well-developed clinical reasoning
  • Work with both neurological and psychiatric ideas to develop an integrated model of these disorders leading to an enhancement of clinical practice
  • Provide a critique and synthesis of the existing scientific literature and apply this to practice

  • Professor Andrea Cavanna - Consultant in Behavioural Neurology and Deputy Programme Lead
  • Most lectures are from visiting consultants, professionals and researchers in the field.

Stand Alone Course

This module can also be taken as a stand-alone course if required. If taken as an individual module you will receive a certificate of attendance for CPD purposes.
