The influence of the Government’s 2006 Manual for Streets guidance upon residential street design and its emphasis on creating ‘places’ is gradually evolving into design, requiring planners and engineers to have a good understanding about what makes a quality area and achieves a sense of place for residents and visitors.  Using the framework of Quality Auditing, this course provides delegates with a robust basis for assessing new development schemes and the ways in which design meets functional and operational objectives, from context to character and from mobility to safety.  The course also shows how this approach can be translated into the regeneration of existing streets.
